Asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation

The universal method among the FFF-techniques

Field-flow fractionation (FFF) comprises several flexible elution techniques for simultaneous separation and measurement. Separation takes place in a thin, open channel through which samples are transported by a laminar flow of liquid. A field, applied perpendicularly to the channel flow, partitions the various components into regions of different flow velocities.

Asymmetrical flow FFF (AFFFF) is a type of flow FFF using only one permeable wall which serves as accumulation wall. Experiments show that the asymmetrical design separates faster and more efficient than the symmetrical channel.

AFFFF is certainly one of the most universal FFF techniques. It features a very broad (105) separation range from 10-3 to 102 ?m . And its application range covers both simple and complex macromaterials of biological, pharmaceutical, industrial and environmental relevance.
